Book Pics - Fantasy

The Lightning Thief brings the world of Greek mythology, complete with its Olympian gods and legendary heroes, into the contemporary world of New York, where a twelve-year-old boy attends a training camp for young heroes.  Recommended for age twelve and up fantasy lovers.  This is one of Jessica’s favorites!

Garth Nix, author of the popular Abhorsen series, has embarked on another series, The Keys to the Kingdom.  Arthur Penhaligon is a young boy who through a series of circumstances is pulled into another realm where he must find a key belonging to each day of the week, both to save his own life and the rest of the world as well.  Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday, and Drowned Wednesday are the first three titles, with four more to follow.  Very good reading for young fantasy lovers.

Pay the Piper. Jane Yolen, the prolific and excellent author of many young adult fantasy novels, partners with Adam Stemple, a professional rock n’ roll musician, in this fantasy adventure about a rock n’ roll band that may be more than it appears, and the fourteen year old girl who must follow her hunches in order to save the children of the town.

Lion Boy: The Truth is the impatiently-awaited third in the Lion Boy trilogy about a boy who can understand the language of lions, and in the process of rescuing his famous scientist parents, travels the world with ongoing amazing adventures.

Sorcery & Cecelia, or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot, is co-authored by young adult fantasy author Patricia C. Wrede, but it is a more mature, delightful romp of a book, best described as Jane Austen meets Harry Potter.  In a series of mannered letters between cousins Cecelia and Kate, we quickly discover that there is more to the London social season than one would expect.  Libbie loves this book!
