Book Pics- Ages 8 to 12

The Birchbark House, by Louise Erdrich Omakayas, a seven-year-old Native American girl of the Ojibwa tribe, lives through the joys of summer and the perils of winter on an island in Lake Superior in 1847. This is a wonderful book tells about family life and relationships with nature.  The sequel, The Game of Silence, is also recommended.

The Julie Andrews Edwards Collection of books for ages 8-12 are all trustworthy choices.  About Little Grey Men, re-published in 2004, she says “I have been in love with this book since my early childhood...It enhanced my awareness of the natural world and cemented forever my love of reading.  Try it!!

 The Silver Spoon of Solomon Snow.  This book is a combination of Lemony Snickett, Charles Dickens, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, written with humor and a great deal of adventure
